Succession

Typically Chinese business leadership is passed through the family.

Luke Ng (2004) argues that the most successful companies are developing Western management structures around family succession. This is mainly because children of business leaders are receiving Western educations.

Superstition

There is much superstition in decision-making, which stems from the fact that superstition is widespread in all communities; it is part of the culture.

At first this can seem utterly illogical from a Western perspective. However, it can also be beneficial to businesses, as it solves conflicts resulting from indecision. Firms often come across the issue of having to choose between equally attractive or unattractive alternatives, but superstition breaks the deadlock by indicating a superior alternative. It removes uncertainty, resulting in people being more committed and united to the decision.
