Chen (2004) - China in the worldChina is becoming a more noticeable economy in the world. It is now the 4th largest industrial producer in the world, behind the US, Japan and Germany. Almost all the famous home appliances in the world are made in China. In the high-tech sector, China's share is rapidly growing. In 2002, China's DVD machines make up 50% of the world market share and the country has become the third biggest IT producer in the world, after the US and Japan. Some fear that China is becoming a world factory, but much of its manufacturing is of low class materials, including steel, much of which it has to import for its automobiles. Rather, China is a workshop for "world factory". The growing demand of the population of China (1.3 billion) is building a platform for building domestic technology industries. This has been facilitated by the increasing numbers of cheap workers and graduates. |
