Hertzberg, Mausner and Snyderman (1959) - The Motivation to Work

This is an early book on the valuing of employees as people.

The authors emphasise the importance of employee attitudes and opinions.

They argue that firms should aim to motivate people through job satisfaction, rather than reward or pressure. This led to the concept of job enrichment, where people were able to be imaginative and be proud of their work.
