Drucker (1969) - The Age of DiscontinuityDrucker foresaw the emergence of the knowledge economy. He coined the term “knowledge worker”, where managers were valued for their knowledge and learning capacity. They are seen as professionals, like teachers and lawyers, but are paid more. They are a responsible individual, not a paper-shuffler or overseer. Knowledge is not only power, it is ownership, as the new knowledge workers are in control of production means, such as pension funds, investments trusts and so on. In his 1992 book, Managing for the Future, Drucker stated that “From now on the key is knowledge. The world is becoming not labour-intensive, not materials intensive, not energy intensive, but knowledge intensive”.
