Implications for managementThis is what the new organisational structure would look like, post-BPR:
As can be seen from the diagram, an applicable management system has been established. More responsibility has been shifted to the foreman and subcontracting/outsourcing has been introduced. Everything has been broken down to project level so more goals are clear. The splitting of roles into clear sections means that strengths and weaknesses stand out from each other and can be dealt with accordingly. Information is transparent and everyone is manager, illustrating the importance of empowerment of the worker. The manager is in charge of gaining contracts, but is made responsible for the effectiveness of the contract. This change in SMEs makes Laoban more profitable without causing them to grow any more, which is an ideal situation. Modern management techniques have been applied successfully by keeping the broad family management structure, while using a Western style.
