Background

Management practice cannot be separated from business entity type, the chaebol. There is an extremely close link between chaebols and the government, which largely dictates strategy.

Therefore, the management of chaebols is:

  • Highly centralised
  • Non-adaptive
  • Emphasis on cultural expectations
  • Pressure to conform (management?) via corporate symbolism
