CM Lecture 1

Management > Crisis Management > Elements > Why is the subject important? > Categories of crisis

Categories of crisis

Internal - these are mostly predictable and can be managed easily if foreseen. Internal crises include:

  1. technical/material
  2. technological
  3. financial
  4. human communication

External - these are mostly unpredictable and often as a result have high impact on the company. External crises include:

  1. environmental changes (market, natural, regulatory, competitive) and
  2. external threats (commercial terrorism, hacking, reputation loss)

Regulatory systems can help prevent crises, but they need to be efficient. If there's too much bureaucracy the problem may not be dealt with until it's too late.
