Specific countriesAlthough the language of business is English, in France, attempt to speak French. Status in Britain is based mainly on regional origin, social class, family background, and accent. Personal achievement is deemed less important. The French value education, wealth and family background. Managers are more authoritarian and are expected to be very competent and not delegate authority. Belgium is more internationally-orientated, owing to its being swamped on all sides by other countries. Like Holland, Belgian people speak many languages, including French and Dutch. Finland and China are strongly nationalistic or culturally proud. In order to succeed in another culture, one needs to transcend the limitation of one’s own culture.
