System views

Innovation involves complex interactions between a firm and its environment. "System" refers to a "regularly interacting or independent group forming a unified whole". Nothing is independent or in isolation. Everything affects everything else. This is important to realise due to the tendency of perceiving firms as free-standing, which is entirely untrue.
