Running the business

Reliance is a family-run business, but they recognise talent when they see it. Their ambition is with information, not just blind expansion.

Reporting directly to the family was a senior management team which consisted of specific types of people:

  1. Early business associates of Dhirubhai, who knew him personally. They were his intermediaries in his financial operations and in his relationship with the government
  2. Very educated and experienced people wooed away by Reliance from other companies, many of them from the public sector. This was done, as only people from the public sector would have any idea of how to deal with large projects of Ambani's ambitions

Everyone helps everyone else; they are not confined to their job roles. This enables innovations and increased responsiveness. Decisions were never rushed - they were just often made very quickly. They planned very carefully indeed and then implemented the plan very rapidly.
