Solutions
- Wheel of Crises – Spinning a wheel and having a crisis
picked at random to work on
- Internal assassins – Employees are trained and asked to
come up with the worst abnormal accidents, where they are the
assassin or terrorist. They know the company well, so what would
they do to destroy the company?
- Crisis forums – companies go to places to discuss their
preparatory techniques with each other, learning to approach crises
from different perspectives (other industries etc.)
- Spy games – hiring someone from the outside to come up
with ways to create an abnormal accident, including lawyers and
journalists
(For a little more information, see Mitroff,
2005)
In order to work, firms need a separate crisis management department,
which reports directly to the CEO. It needs to be a top priority.
A crisis centre has three functions:
1. Design the company crisis portfolio and plans for crises
2. Spots warning signs
3. Puts theory into practical use, by doing things like training etc.
