Halal (1993) - Global
Strategic Management in a New World Order
Changes which will alter how
things are perceived in the future.
-
Population increase. By the middle of this
century, the population is expected to double to approximately 10-14
billion people on this earth. 95% of this will be in the developing
countries.
-
Increased output. Industrial out-put is
expected to rise by a factor of 5-10 over the next 30-40 years, as
more of the world reaches a better standard of living.
-
Global network. The world will continue to
be increasingly well-connected through communication technology,
creating an ever more closely knit global network
-
The High-tech Revolution. Breakthroughs in
science and medicine.
-
Global community. The globe is converging
into one community through technology, media, currency, and
institutions such as the EU.
- Increased diversification.
The paradox of global integration comes with more diversification,
with more and more groups seeking autonomy and a separate identity.
-
Increased rights. Freedom and human rights
should increase and spread around the world, including free markets.
-
More wars. Many wars will arise,
particularly owing to the splintering of societies into more and
more factions. However, global war, such as nuclear, is less likely.
- Not
so materialistic. The rich capital countries will strive for a
life above material possessions, to one of spirituality and
religion.
