Problems and solutions
Problems posed by enterprise networking include:
- Loss of management control, as the firm becomes more
decentralised
- Organisational change requirements, such as culture and
structure
- Hidden costs of client/server computing. The biggest cost is
operations staff, as much time needs to be spent on maintenance,
data back up, technical problem solving and installations
- Network reliability and security. The technology is very complex
with dense layers which can develop bugs or be sabotaged
Solutions include:
- Managing the change - plan it all down to the last detail,
including BPR and culture
- Education and training
- Data administration disciplines - keep in control of the
whereabouts and quality of the data
- Planning for connectivity - planning in the future
