GSM Lecture 7Management > Global Strategic Management > Organising > Determinants of structure > attributes of structure Key attributes of corporate structureHeight Referring to the number of layers in a structure, a firm can be tall or flat. A tall structure allows specialist professional managers to oversee many of a firm's activities. Example industries requiring a high structure include civil engineering, consultancy and accountancy. Width The extent to which a firm is centralised or decentralised. Hierarchical configuration Strict hierarchy means deferring to seniority in decision-making. A clear chain of command is thus established, where job boundaries are clearly defined. No formal hierarchy enables a firm to be able to multi-task, as people are not "stuck" in their roles.
