GSM Lecture 7Management > Global Strategic Management > Organising > Determinants of structure > Attributes of structure > International structure > International detail International structures - detailExport The export department is responsible for foreign sales from domestic production. Such a department occurs only in the early stages of small-scale internationalisation, as once FDI is conducted, a separate export section becomes redundant. Mother-daughter structure The mother parent firm is a holding company for largely independent foreign subsidies. This structure is suited to newly internationalised firms or to those with minimal central resources. This structure also reflects a lack of global planning, meaning that once global thinking begins, this structure will have to change. International divisional structure Like the export department, this is a separate department that deals with foreign operations, which is again concentrated international knowledge and can cause conflict between domestic and international sales. Again, once a global strategy is in place, the whole firm will be geared towards international thinking, meaning that a separate department will be useless.
