Key issues for Knowledge Management

Knowledge needs to be managed like any other corporate asset, via embedding it into the business strategy, with commitment from top management. It is a major HR issue and requires a change in staff attitudes towards a sharing and learning culture with common goals.

Knowledge needs to be treated as an intangible asset, which can be difficult, as accounting standards do not allow knowledge to be included as an asset, because it does not have a clear monetary value.

Management needs to realise that it takes time between innovation and bringing a product to market and to use knowledge to shorten that time. And most importantly, they can use knowledge to be more responsive to CUSTOMER CARE.

Other key issues for knowledge management include librarian to cybrarian, good IT support and commercial legal protection, as it is quite simple to steal information databases.
